Resources

Here are some resources I have found helpful through the years. Please note that while I have done my very best to find links that are not only edifying, but 100% legal and above board, and while I have been encouraged and inspired by many of these websites, songs, and books listed, I don't endorse these websites nor do I subscribe to any belief statements, etc. held therein. Use them as resources, and if you disagree with something, by all means, avoid that resource.

Resources Specifically Related to Self-Harm or other Related Harmful Coping Mechanisms

Lysamena Project on Self-Injury - This is a GREAT website, very thoughtfully done and FULL of resources. Please take a look.

What to do instead - A very good list of things to do instead of self-harm from the Lysamena Project on Self-Injury listed above. I read through the whole list and found it very informative, useful, and promoting alternatives to activities which simulate physical harm.

List of Diversions - From the same Lysamena Project.

To Write Love on Her Arms - You've probably seen the t-shirts or heard of them on the radio, but there are resources here for people who struggle with self-harm or know others who do.

Adullam Ministries - This ministry was started by a woman who used to struggle with self harm as well as various eating disorders named Abbie Robson, who wrote a biographical work on her story. I looked over this site and felt it had many helpful resources and ideas with specific sections for both those who self harm and for people who care for the same. For those who care about someone who is a self harmer, their How to Respond page was helpful (please use the ''Alternatives'' list above instead of that found on this website as explained below). As a WARNING note, I do NOT agree with coping techniques that are intended to simulate physical harm which many support, including this site, so please view the ''Alternatives'' page under the ''Self-Harmers'' tab with great caution. There are some other helpful options there, but I have found the simulating ''Alternatives'' to be triggers for me. For a different list, refer to the Lysamena Project on Self-Injury listed above.

List of Supportive Resources

Groundwire - where you can get encouragement and chat live with someone who cares and will pray for you.

Air 1 Radio Where you can listen to music, and there's info to call into the help line for prayer and support.

And here's another thing I often have done...start playing music...good music, not the dark kind that puts you in a mood of wanting to do things you shouldn't. The uplifting kind...(Air 1 is good for this)...I have looked up songs on YouTube as well. Song examples that I personally like include:

I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack

Right Beside You by Building 429

Tenth Avenue North Music and Video Blogs

Annie Moses Band (I especially like the CD Through the Looking Glass, the song ''Glory Giver)

Audio Bible (There are many translations here, but you can find others on other websites).

Audio Books (There are MANY books here available for listening, many of which I have heard of, but not all of which I have personally read. The point here is, fill your mind with something edifying. One of my personal favorites on this list is Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan).
